What to Bring to a Holiday Potluck: Prosciutto and Fig Crostini


With the holidays right around the corner, I thought I'd share a simple recipe that even those of you who use your oven as extra storage space (girl can never have enough room for her shoes!) can easily bring to a potluck.
  
The best part about it? 

It looks so presentable, no one will have ever need to know that just the other day, you had to YouTube how to boil pasta. 
Ingredients:
Baguette, Goat cheese, Fig jam, Arugula, Prosciutto

Recipe:
1. First slice the baguette. 
I generally like to slice the baguette at a 45 degree angle to maximize the surface area.

*If you're feeling extra fancy, feel free to warm the baguette slices in the oven with a brush of olive oil and a dash of sea salt. 

2. Spread goat cheese and fig jam onto the sliced baguette.

3. Layer a ribbon of proscuitto on top.

4. Followed by a leaf or two of arugula.

And voila - there you have it! Prosciutto, Fig, Arugula and Goat Cheese Crostini - perfect for fooling your friends into thinking you're a pulled together, domestic goddess of an adult.

Ribbons


For Erin and Tim's wedding, we decided to put together cute DIY wedding favors. They had previously bought mini baskets from Thailand, and all we needed was a touch of colorful ribbon. Of course, there's no place better to get it than Sham Shui Po! If you've never been before, it can be very confusing and overwhelming! So we wanted to share with you how to navigate through these crowded streets of SSP, and some of the stores that we went into! And if you're just visiting Hong Kong, this is a pretty neat area to walk around too! 

If you are going by MTR, you can exit through A2. Walk down Apliu St - an electronics market, and the ribbon stores will start at the intersection of Apliu St and Nam Cheong St. You will find ribbon stores after another. Stores are usually open between 11am - 6 pm. They are NOT open on Sundays (we made that mistake a few times).
Each store has its own unique set of ribbons, and you may not be able to find the same exact type throughout the street. One important tip is that, if you want a large amount of the same kind, you can pre-order from them! It's best to have a sample of what you want so you can save time browsing their ceiling to floor collection.
We stopped at a few stores, but bought most of our ribbons from Sang Hing Ho Webbing & Dyeing  (128 Nam Cheong St).

lets get coffee

I spent a wonderful 4 weeks in Hong Kong, mostly working at the Sony office and planning Erin's wedding by night. But I am really happy that I got to see my old childhood friends, explore a few of the new restaurants and art spaces, eat a lot of good Chinese food and best of all catching up with my family. During our sister's speech at Erin's wedding, I said that the Yeh sister's have a very special relationship and I couldn't believe this more! I don't know any three other girls that get along, share similar passions and love each other as much as we do.. :)

Leaving HK is always tough, especially when my family makes it so much fun. Good thing I'll be back in a month for Christmas!

Hand-Drawn

It was a very late evening when I found one of James Gulliver Hancock's illustration sitting on Erin's desktop background. "Ooo! Who's the artist?" I asked, which then led us to 1 to 2 hours of online stalking. The Australian illustrator's obsession with drawing has brought him all around the world, working with companies including Coca-Cola, The New York Times, and Ford Motors. 

All illustrations are drawn by hand, but some are scanned into the computer to be rearranged or color corrected. Some of the work are purely originals, from the colors, to the lines and fonts. Man! I wish I had this talent!

Behind the Photos

I used to be uncomfortable with posting fashion photos because it felt strange seeing myself online. It's kind of like when you listen to a recording of your voice and it sounds so different from what you expected!  But thanks to your support, my photographers, makeup artists and the companies that have featured me, it has encouraged me to continue to be the mannequin that displays the clothes!
